"Our mission is to empower Lions clubs, volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
I want to maintain and grow with a focus on the needs of our community, while being guided by our eight global causes.
Markham Lions Club has always made a real difference and positive impact in our community through our hands-on efforts, fundraising skills and dedication to service that has been driven by our energetic, passionate, community-oriented members.
This Lion year 2024- 2025, as I start my new year, I am pleased to bring on board 2 - not 1 - but 2 Leo Clubs; for the youth is our future and they will be here for a very long time.
And we will be growing our membership. All we have to do is ask and people might surprise you, and say yes...
Have a good year,"
Lion President Tim Armstrong
(Letter from the President)
On March 17th the Markham Lions attended the Seniors of Cedarcrest Manor and served their annual St Patrick's Day Brunch, consisting of delicious Irish stews, biscuits, cake and of course, Sherry - all prepared and delivered by the Lions.
There were approximately 50 seniors in attendance and served by 10 Lions. We were all entertained by the one and only - accordion player "Sal" - who has joined us at this event for the last five years and who continues to keep us smiling". A great time was had by all.
The Markham Lions and a few friends helped John and Jacquie celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on March 22nd.
The PetValu Walk for Dog Guides
The PetValu Walk for Dog Guides is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year! All funds raised during the Walk go to the day-to-day operations of The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG receives no funding from the governments). Each dog guide costs $35,000 to raise, train and match to a recipient. There are 7 Dog Guide Programs: Vision, Hearing, Seizure Response, Autism Assistance, Diabetes Alert, Service and Facility Support. Nationally, the Walk is hoping to raise $1.6 million. The Markham Lions Club fundraising goal this year is $4,000. Please consider registering for our Walk and making a donation. All donations over $25 will receive a tax donation form.
